There are many people who take a rented car when they visit a foreign location. Most people try to get the best deals on car rentals. However, these people are unaware of certain important facts when they return the car. Here are a few points that will help in reducing your car rental bills:

a) Avoid taking prepaid gasoline plans when renting a car. It will be prudent on your part to fill the tank yourself before you return the car. When you will the fill the tank you will pay for the amount of gas you have used and will not be overcharged. Avoid filling gasoline at a station that is close to the airport as it could be expensive. You can fill up at a station that could be a few miles from the airport. You can also use the internet to check the prices charged by various gas stations.

b) There are many car rental companies that will charge you extra for returning the car early. At times, when the car is returned early the rate structure changes and you may have to pay a higher amount. Also, don’t return the car late as the companies could charge you a late fee. Most companies have a grace period before they start charging late fee. So make sure you return the car before the grace period expires.

c) Before you leave the car, make sure you haven’t left your personal belongings in the car. Some of the most common belongings that you are likely to lose include clothes, cell phones, umbrellas and sunglasses.

d) Make sure you ask the check-in attendant to inspect the car in your presence. If the car is damaged, make sure the amount charged is in accordance with the rental agreement. If there are no damages, make sure they credit you account in your presence.
